About the Group: Dapon The Mirror

DAPON The Mirror, located at Tangla, Udalguri District, a rural place in Assam was established on 17th September 2003 and got its Registration No. UDGI/262/A/14 of 2006 under the Indian Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with a firm objective for the promoting, propagation and preservation of culture Heritage in the country at large and promotion and Enhance of Theatre movement in the country in particular. This group has its own theatre complex area of 2 acre known as DAPPON CULTURAL COMPLEX at Tangla bordering Bhutan.

Since its inception, the theatre group has been running actively and working seriously under the guidance of Pabitra Rabha, P.G. Diploma in Acting from National School of drama, New Delhi, one of the most committed, energetic distinguished theatre personalities in Assam as well as North East, with a band of 25 (twenty five) young and energetic artistes of the group. The artistes are confining there time in theatre practicing, training, research works, performing laboratory process of culture assimilation etc. In search of a novo theatre language. Under working culture, our theatre has been actively undertaking a number of cultural activities with our own sources of income from play production, public donations and financial assistance for workshop and play production from National School of Drama, New Delhi and BTC,Assam.

The main objective of the Group is to articulate talents both physically and mentally, so that the youth & children can pay attention on cultural activities even in an unstable social condition entire the area of North East, India.

Khil-Khilai, under DAPON, is another wing, concentrating on Theatre in Education, where children are taught to adjust themselves in various other activities.

OJAH PALI is another folk performance under DAPON which is performed by traditional folk performance group leading by GUNI RAM RABHA, including 6 performer.

Holding a grand project Theatre & Vocational Training For DWARF (Psychically challenged citizen)regarding humanity and prosperity of the cosmic colony…. we had approached the grand community of DWARF (Psychically challenged citizen) from all over Assam and cordially they have given their auspicious presence in Tangla, the tiny place where “DAPON The Mirror” took birth and breathed..

DAPON is going to provide all sorts of training and psychological treat to develop their mental phenomenon in next phase of the project. Teach them to excel in the proper way contented with the instinct needed to smoothen. For that purpose we have arranged a intensive workshop. Scholars from all over India will guide them in various aspects of performing arts.

DAPON has created a permanent DWARF Village, ‘AMAR GAON’ for physically Challenged Citizen (dwarf), which is open for all Creative Dwarf.

Pabitra Rabha

Pabitra Rabha borne in Nabhanga, Tangla . He has completed his graduation from Guwahati University and sharpened his skills in theatre under National school of Drama, where he has completed his post graduate diploma in acting. Having vast experience in acting in different stages in various part of India as well as abroad has started the desire to develop & train up with the skill of theatre of hidden talents of the localities as well as entire area of north east of India namely “DAPON the mirror ”at Tangla. He has conducted several workshops in Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and other state of India special attention has been given to the children & Youth. He has also work in Ranchi Jail, Juvenile Court of Dumardaga, Ranchi (Remand home).

He has directed & choreographed several plays in different languages (Assamese, nagamese, aao, garo, kok-borok, hindi, kannada, Bengali,Rabha) including Khwmchi Muga (Famous writer Dharmaveer bharti’s “Andha yug”(hindi), in bodo language) and works as designer specially in the event of Lighting, Settings, Property, Mask making, Make-up & costumes in various plays, and also worked as a technical in-charge of international Theatre Festival B.R.M.(NSD) and as Technical director in local & national level festivals.

As an Actor he has acted in Physical theatre festival, Tokyo (JAPAN); and several plays..... with reputed directors of the country as well as abroad.

He has also acted in hindi feature films like "Mary Kom", "Tango charlie", "Mukhbir", "Kaya Taran", "Choti", "Chigurida kanasu"(Kannada), "Alexandra David Nil"(French), Mission China (Assamese, Hindi),A little Finger(English), Alifa (Bangla, Assamese) Adhyay (Assamese, best Actor, state film award 2013) etc.

As musician he has played in Rhythm of forest with international musicians several times specially the folk instrument of North-East as well as the other instruments. He has choreographed and designed Bihu dance, Bodo dance, Rabha dance, The largest folk festival of Jharkhand “Janajatiya Khetriya Mahotsav” , and his most valuable creation is “The Rhythm of Bordoichila” concentrating on all the traditional folk performances of North-East India .

Working with Physically Challenged Citizen (DWARF), The life time project (Individual) “Theatre & Vocational Training for Dwarf”.... created a permanent Village,‘AMAR GAON’ ,which is open for all Creative Dwarf.

Mr. Rabha has got the CNN IBN & Reliance Foundations The REAL HERO Award 2012 and Ustad Bishmillah khan yuva puraskar by Sangeet Natak Accademy.


A series of summer Children Theatre workshops

As an initiative to promote drama in the North Eastern states, we have been organizing theatre workshops for children every year in July. This year, we have organized it in eight different locations in Assam - Tinsukia, Viswanath Chariali, Philobari, Mangaldoi, Boko, Tangla, Sorbhog and Dimakuchi. The workshops witnessed heartfelt response from students as well as the parents. More than 400 students participated in the workshops. Here are a few snippets from the workshops.
